1. Introduction & Developer Identity
Welcome to Steply (“Steply”, “the Application”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a step counter and pedometer app for Android and iOS, developed and maintained by Gree Web Solutions (“Developer”, “Company”).
This Privacy Policy explains what information Steply processes, how step counting works on your device, the exact purpose of every permission the app requests, and the choices you have. It is written to meet the requirements of the Google Play Developer Program Policies, the Apple App Store Review Guidelines, and applicable privacy laws including the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
2. Local-First Architecture
Steply has no user accounts and no backend servers for user data. All processing happens on your phone:
- On-device storage: hourly step counts, daily goals, streaks, reports, notification preferences and personal info are saved in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read.
- No uploads: none of this information is transmitted to Gree Web Solutions or any third party.
- Works offline: step counting, history, reports, streaks and reminders all work without an internet connection.
3. Information Steply Processes
The following information is created and kept on your device only:

Step data and body metrics can be considered health-related information. Because it never leaves your device, Gree Web Solutions has no access to it.
4. How Steps Are Counted
Android
Steply reads the hardware step counter and step detector sensors for live updates. It also uses Google’s Recording API, a component of Google Play services that records step counts locally on your device (for about 10 days) so steps are counted even when Steply is closed. The Recording API does not require a Google account and, as used by Steply, does not send your step data to Google’s servers. A periodic background task (Android WorkManager) updates your history and reminders roughly every 15 minutes.
iPhone
Steply uses Apple’s Core Motion framework (CMPedometer), which keeps about 7 days of step data on your device. Steply does not read from or write to Apple Health.
In both cases Steply copies the step counts into its own on-device history so that your reports can cover longer periods.
5. Device Permissions & Their Purposes
Steply requests only the permissions needed for its features. You can review or revoke them at any time in your device settings.
Android
ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION (Physical activity)Required to read step counts from the device’s step sensors and the Recording API. This is the only permission Steply needs to count steps. Without it, steps cannot be counted.
POST_NOTIFICATIONSShows the reminders and goal alerts you enable (Android 13+). You can turn each type off in Steply or in system settings.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETEDRestores your scheduled reminders after the phone restarts.
VIBRATEAllows reminders to vibrate when notification sound is enabled.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_HEALTHPowers the optional live step counter in your notification bar, which shows today’s steps, calories and goal progress in real time with Pause / Resume buttons. It reads only the step sensors, runs entirely on your device, and can be turned off in Steply › Settings › Notifications.
WAKE_LOCK, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATEAdded by Android’s WorkManager library to run the short periodic background step sync reliably. Steply does not use them to access the network for your data.
INTERNETUsed only to download the app’s typeface (Plus Jakarta Sans) from Google Fonts. No step data, identifiers or personal information are sent.
iOS

6. What We Do Not Collect
- No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials.
- No precise or approximate location.
- No advertising identifiers (GAID/IDFA) — Steply shows no ads.
- No analytics, usage tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs.
- No contacts, photos, files, or microphone data.
- No sale or sharing of personal information, for any purpose.
7. Third-Party Services
Steply relies on the following platform services:

The app stores may collect information about downloads and device compatibility under their own policies. Gree Web Solutions only receives aggregated, anonymous statistics provided by the stores (such as install counts).
8. Data Storage, Retention & Security
- Steply keeps roughly the last 800 days of step history on your device; older days are removed automatically.
- Data is protected by your operating system’s app sandbox and your device lock. On Android, Steply opts out of automatic cloud backup. On iOS, app data may be included in your own encrypted device or iCloud backups, which are controlled by Apple and you.
- When you use Reset Data or uninstall Steply, the data it stored is permanently deleted from the app. Step history kept separately by your operating system (for example Google Play services or Core Motion) is managed by those systems.
9. Your Choices & Rights
- Delete: Steply › Settings › Reset Data erases your history. Uninstalling removes all app data.
- Control permissions: revoke Physical Activity / Motion & Fitness or notifications in system settings at any time.
- Control reminders: enable, disable, or reschedule each reminder in Steply › Settings › Notifications.
Under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar laws you have rights to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of your personal data. Because Gree Web Solutions does not receive or store your data, these rights are exercised directly on your device using the controls above. You may still contact us with any privacy request at info@greewebsolutions.com and we will respond within 30 days.
10. Children’s Privacy
Steply is a general-audience wellness app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because all data stays on the device, no information about children is received by Gree Web Solutions.
11. Health Disclaimer
Steply is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Step counts depend on your device’s sensors; distance, calories, and active time are estimates. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes or laws require it. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will make reasonable efforts to let you know in advance, for example through the app’s store listing or release notes.
